My Word for the Year - 2025
Choosing a word for the year is a lovely way to pick a word for reflection, one to return to and guide you each day.
My Journal of Soulful Reflections is an authentic, cosy and soulful extension of my small business, Clementine Rose. You can expect to uncover more personal entries infused with inspiration and encouragement underpinned by the beauty of the natural world, and the ebb and flow of the changing seasons. You’ll also discover gentle reflections on slow and seasonal living.
I invite you to come alongside me in my monthly journal entries, where we can collectively take a few moments to pause, reflect, and unwind.
Let’s journey together and go on a seasonal adventure, nurturing and nourishing our souls as we discover slow moments of peace and joy, the wonders of nature, and the magic in our everyday lives.
For the past few years, I’ve made it a tradition to choose a word that will guide me throughout the year. Perhaps this is something that you have done too? If so I’d love to know what your word is for 2025? It's a beautiful approach to selecting a word that invites reflection, one that you can return to throughout the year, and offers daily guidance.
This year, my word for 2025 is courage.
A couple of ways that the word courage is defined as is “the ability to control your fear in a dangerous or difficult situation” and “to be brave and confident enough to do what you believe in.”
While I certainly hope to steer clear of dangerous situations, life inevitably brings challenges, which I think we can all agree on. I’ve definitely faced my fair share of them in various ways throughout the years.
Reflecting on 2024, I found myself looking at both what I’ve accomplished so far and what I’d love to pursue more of in the future. For me, all those share something in common: courage.
Over the years, I’ve felt my confidence lessen significantly, along with anxiety and OCD taking away some of the joy I once found in the things I loved. This year, I want to take intentional, small steps toward reclaiming that joy… small steps that are rooted in courage.
We recently watched a program on tv which was all about the devastating storms of 1987. One particular story caught my attention about an oak tree at Kew Gardens. 700 trees were lost there. There was one tree though, which at first glance, seemed irreparably damaged, yet something remarkable happened:
“The Great Storm lifted the 200 year old Oak clear out of the ground. It landed back in the hole created and was thought to have been irrevocably damaged.
What transpired however was very different. Having begun to show signs of stress and decline before the great storm, Turner’s Oak was not only now healthy, but thriving again.”
I felt that the story of this oak tree really resonates deeply with the challenges we face in life, but how through those challenges they can produce growth, perseverance, strength, and begin our journey towards joy, peace, and even new opportunities and new beginnings.
It’s something that I am taking inspiration from as I begin my journey through 2025. Like the oak tree, I want to embrace the opportunity to grow stronger, even after periods of stress or setbacks. I believe that courage will be an important foundation of that growth.
Until next time…

Thanks for sharing that story. Your choice of "courage" is excellent and I wish you well with it throughout the year.
My words this year are deliberately beginning with the letter C, as are the three words that have guided me for many years in general. My general words being "curiosity", "contradiction", and "curation".
In other news, I want to go to Kew again now!
I love your word of the year. Courage a great word to take with you through the year.
