I’m so excited that all the bulbs in the garden are beginning to reach up from the ground. Amongst the sleepiness of winter, it’s so wonderful to see vibrant green shoots emerging, signalling new growth and new beginnings, and that spring is very much on its way. It’s particularly very welcoming after the coldness and darkness that this winter has brought.
With more time spent indoors - thanks to the chilly weather, darker evenings, and the desire to stay cosy - I often find myself craving connection with others online. Do you feel the same?
In today’s Digital Marketing with the Seasons, you’ll find below some inspiration and encouragement for connecting with your audience. Just like we nurture nature to see it blossom, we must support those essential to helping our small businesses grow and thrive. As we move further into the new year, it’s the perfect time to start forming new positive habits that will plant seeds for flourishing results in the future.
I frequently see small businesses missing the opportunity to build a meaningful connection with their audience, which is always disheartening. Although it’s something we hear time and time again, that creating a more personal connection to your audience creates a bountiful amount of growth, it’s very much true! One of the best things that you can do for your small business is to build those important connections with your audience. This is also the same for any online platform, not just for small business owners.
…But it’s not just for our benefit. It also shows others that they’re appreciated, loved, seen, and valued, reminding them that they bring joy to our online world too.
This can work for any social media platform, and you can adjust it as needed. For now, I’m focusing on Instagram. I want you to think about creating your very own simple checklist to go through after you’ve posted, and something that you can do daily, or as and when you are able to. This checklist is also something that you can implement in just 10 minutes.
Engage with those who you follow - Tap the Instagram logo at the top of the homepage, then tap "Followers" to see the latest posts from the people you follow. Spend a few minutes liking, commenting and sharing. You could even send them a message to let them know why you love their post, or perhaps why it’s inspired you, or why it resonated with you. Next, go through your stories. You can react with an emoji, like the story, or send a message to share your thoughts and reflections, or why you love it.
Prompt further conversation in your Stories - This is a great way to engage your audience and encourage interaction with your content. Simply share your Instagram post to your Stories and add a question, poll, or any other interactive option Instagram offers.
Reply to comments and messages - Don’t forget to reply to any messages you may have in your DMs, along with any comments on your latest post (and previous posts). You can also check your notifications to see if anyone has shared your post. If they have, send them a little thank you message to show your appreciation. A few kind words go a long way!
An extra tip to add to your checklist is to engage with content related to your niche, which you can easily do through hashtags. It’s a great way to make new connections and grow your audience.
