10 Simple Things That Bring Me Joy
Nature, the scent of lavender, evening walks, cheesy romance films, exploring new places, old books, and more!
My Journal of Soulful Reflections is an authentic, cosy and heartfelt extension of my small business, Clementine Rose. You can expect to uncover more personal entries infused with inspiration and encouragement underpinned by the beauty of the natural world, and the ebb and flow of the changing seasons. You’ll also discover gentle reflections on slow and seasonal living.
I invite you to come alongside me in my monthly journal entries, where we can collectively take a few moments to pause, reflect, and unwind.
Let’s journey together and go on a seasonal adventure, nurturing and nourishing our souls as we discover slow moments of peace and joy, the wonders of nature, and the magic in our everyday lives.
Sometimes our day can be so busy that we may forget about the small moments that fill our hearts with joy. It’s a lovely reminder that there is so much joy to be found in each and every day.
I wanted to share a few of my own. They’re not all part of my daily routine, and some are physical items, but each one adds much happiness to my day. Maybe you enjoy some of these as well?
Nature
Whichever season it may be, I love to be outside amongst nature. I really love that nature can help reduce stress, make us feel more relaxed, improve our health both physically and mentally whilst nurturing our wellbeing. It also boosts productivity, improves sleep, provides nourishment for our souls, and reduces loneliness. Nature definitely does all of this for me, and more!
The scent of lavender
Lavender is one of those fragrances that I could never tire of. I find it calming, nostalgic, comforting, soothing, and it really boosts my mood! Plus I absolutely love it when uses lavender in his baking!
Evening walks
A favourite part of my day is when David and I go for our evening walk. After a work-filled day, it’s so lovely to get some fresh air and to have a change of scenery. I always find that going for a walk helps to relieve any stress and anxiety that I may be feeling, and it also makes me feel good!
Reading my Bible
Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been reading my Bible in One Year each day that David got me as a lovely gift back in 2021. I mainly read it in the evening, and sometimes in the morning, and it’s a little part of my day that brings me much joy and comfort.
Fun with family and friends
Being with family and friends always brings me so much joy. I moved to Staffordshire back in 2022 after I got married, and live about just over 100 miles away from my hometown in Lincolnshire. So it always feels extra special when I’m back and spending time with my family. David and I have also had a wonderful few days this year when we’ve gone to visit friends, and they’ve come to visit us. Plus we have some wonderful friends here. We’ve actually got a concert coming up soon with two very dear friends who invited us along to go with them, which I’m really looking forward to.
Cheesy romance films
I have a weak spot for cheesy romance films! Anyone else? When we have the house to ourselves, I love to pop on the romance channel on Freeview. They usually play a lot of Hallmark ones, which I really love to watch. They’re just really cosy, feel-good films, that are also great to watch in the background as I work! Plus there’s lots of seasonal ones, which is a bonus! I especially love the autumn and Christmas themed ones.
Old books
I absolutely love books in general, but I do have a thing for old books! I love imagining who might have held them before, especially if they have writing or a name inside. It feels like they carry their very own stories, not just the words inside of them. And of course, I can’t resist the smell of a vintage book! One of the oldest books I own is from 1778. I’m always in awe at the craftsmanship of books from that time. The binding is just beautiful, and I also love the details that went into the cover. Now I just need to learn French to read it! Thank goodness for Duolingo!
The Substack community
I’ve been on Substack for over half a year now, and it really is such a beautiful platform to be on. I’ve found the Substack community to be so welcoming, and have really made me feel at home on here. It’s been such a joy to connect with other kindred spirits, and to make new online friends, whilst sharing my love of writing.
Exploring new places
I love exploring new places. You just never know what you may find! Last year David got us a roundabout ticket each for the day. We took a bag full of snacks, and spent the day visiting the different locations that we could go to with our ticket. It was my first time doing this, and I absolutely loved it. Highly recommend! Also a bag of snacks is a must.
My small business
Next month my small business, Clementine Rose, turns 2! 🥳 I officially launched it in 2022, with a relaunch earlier this year. I’m incredibly thankful that I was able to take that next step into being self-employed, especially as it had been something that I had wanted to do for a long time, but it just hadn’t happened for many different reasons. Though it’s still growing and has had a few challenging moments, it brings me a lot of joy. I’ve had the absolute pleasure of working with small business owners, artists, musicians, and creatives.
There’s so many more things that I could add to this list, but I’ve tried to narrow it down to 10! Perhaps I’ll save the rest for another post.
I’d love to know some of the things that bring joy to your day?
Until next time…

Wonderful read, well done 👏 💕
A lovely read! My simple joy is taking a walk around my garden in a morning when the house is asleep but the woodland wildlife is awake 🥰
